How do we approach Romans chapters 9-11? Perhaps we avoid them, or argue about them, or even get angry with them! The Apostle Paul, as he meditates upon the sovereign purposes of God in Christ, is left in a state of adoring wonder: 'Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!' The addresses in this book, delivered at the 2011 Evangelical Movement of Wales Conference at Aberystwyth, had a similar impact on those present: 'May Jesus Christ be praised!'.
The author writes of God's sovereign purposes, 'The question is not, Do I have free will? but Does God have free will? Is God free to do whatever he pleases? Or, to put it another way, does the world revolve around you, or does it revolve around him? There needs to be a Copernican revolution in our thinking ... we need to realise that God is sovereign.'
Do you find Romans 9-11 a problem? Do you think election is a bar to evangelism? You must read this book!
