"This is a succinct commentary on the Book of Job, written in an engaging style with sublime truths, dished up in bite-size pieces. The book is steeped in sound theology, though never densely expressed. Testimonies and verbal illustrations are used wisely and to powerful effect. The author divides the text of Job into three parts: ‘The blame game’, ‘There is another way’ and ‘It’s beyond me’. This helpful structure makes the task of tackling Job less daunting.

For me, one of the most useful contributions of the book is the way the author encourages us to look away from our troubles and towards God, helping us to enlarge our view of him. Our generation has tended to reduce God to our own size, supposedly to make him more accessible with the result that our God has become too small. This book reintroduces us to the sublime God who made the universe and yet, who is interested in his suffering servants. That ‘God does work purposefully in and through situations which seem to us bewildering and perhaps deeply painful’ is a poignant reminder for the bewildered believer who reads this book in a search for answers. This book is intended to propel us to our Bibles and to our God – let’s go there!"
